Volodymyr Illich Hladkyi was a Ukrainian graphic artist and painter. He was born on April 24, 1929 in the city of Dnipropetrovsk (now Dnipro) and graduated from the Odesa Art School (1952), where he studied under D. Krainiev. Hladkyi worked in the field of easel and monumental painting, easel and book graphics, and participated in regional (1952), republic (1954) and all-Union exhibitions (1957). His main works include the monumental and decorative paintings "From a Fairy Tale to the Past" (1968), "Physical Culture and Sports" (1968), "The Storyteller H. H. Andersen" (1983), "O. Green" (1983), and "Black Sea Regatta" (2002), as well as the graphic series "Old Donbas" (1957), "Donbas" (1960), "In the World of the Yellow Devil" (1963), "From the Depths of Centuries" (1993), "Red Sails" (1994), "The Fisherman's Family" (1999), "Circus" (1999), and "Echoes of Time" (1999). His works are kept in museums of Ukraine. Hladkyi lived and worked in Donetsk and died in 2003.
