Mykola Tarasovych Popov was a Ukrainian graphic artist, teacher, and member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine from 1961. Born on August 7, 1927 in the village of Yastrebovtsi (now Kursk Oblast, Russia), he studied from 1950 to 1956 at the Kyiv Art Institute, where his teachers were O. Pashchenko, K. Zaruba, and O. Filbert. Starting in 1961, he taught there at the Department of Graphic Arts, and from 1978, he was a professor. Popov worked mainly in the field of easel graphics (lithography, etching, various drawing tools) and painting. He was an Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR from 1977 and a People's Artist of Ukraine from 1997. Among his works are the graphic series "Based on "Kobzar" by T.G. Shevchenko" (1964), "Factory and People" (1966), "My Childhood" (1970 to 1972), "Human World" (1971 to 1977), "Partisan Suite" (1974), "My Kyiv" (1976 to 1980), "Courage" (1981 to 1982), and others. He participated in art exhibitions. Popov died on June 12, 2010 in Kyiv. His works are kept in art and local history museums of Ukraine.
