Valerii Fedorovych Akopov was a Ukrainian landscape painter, writer, poet, and translator. He was born on 11 October 1939 in Kyiv. From 1958 to 1960, he took drawing and painting lessons from the Kyiv-based artist T.I. Sypko. In 1959–1961, he studied at an art studio for adults under the painter Yu.Yu. Vaisburg. From 1961, he worked independently. In 1965, the young artist became a member of the youth section of the Union of Artists of Ukraine and began participating in art exhibitions that same year. Between 1974 and 2011, thirty of his solo exhibitions were held in Kyiv. He became a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine in 1986. Akopov worked in the style of landscape realism, mainly in the watercolour technique. Among his major works is the series "Old Kyiv" (1972–1986). He passed away in September 2020. The artist’s works are held in numerous art museums and private collections in Ukraine.
