Vasyl Mykolaiovych Batiushkov was a Ukrainian painter and member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1957. He was born on 6 (18) January 1894 in Samara. From 1912-1914, he studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. In 1914-1916, he continued his studies in the studio of Kostiantyn Yuon in Moscow. From 1954, he lived in Kyiv. Since 1954, in Kyiv, Batiushkov designed pavilions at the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy of the Ukrainian SSR. From 1956 he was the chief artist of the pavilions, and later of the agricultural part of the exhibition. He worked in the fields of design and theatrical and decorative art, as well as easel watercolor painting. He participated in art exhibitions. His personal exhibitions were in Kyiv (1973, 1980) and Moscow (1974). Among his works are the painting cycles "Kyiv" (1965-1972), "Khosta" (1967), "Sedniv" (1970), and "Palanga" (1970). He died in Kyiv on 17 January 1981. The artist's works are kept in museums of Ukraine and private collections.
