Heorhii Stepanovych Melikhov was a Ukrainian painter and teacher. Born on May 11 (24), 1908 in Kharkiv, he studied from 1935 to 1941 at the Kharkiv and Kyiv Art Institutes under P. Volokidin, F. Krychevskbq, S. Prokhorov, M. Sharonov, and S. Hryhoriev. He participated in all-Union (starting in 1939), republic (starting in 1945), and foreign (starting in 1956) art exhibitions. A member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, he worked in the field of easel painting. Melikhov was a master of the realistic school. His main works include "Young Taras Shevchenko in the Studio of K.P. Bryullov" (1947), "A.M. Gorky in Ukraine" (1957), "Spring 1945" (1960). He was an Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1951). From 1956 to 1960, Melikhov was the Secretary of the Board of the Union of Artists of the USSR. He was a People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR from 1967 and a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts from 1979. His works are represented in museum and private collections in Ukraine and abroad. Lived and worked in Kyiv and died on April 22, 1985.
