Oleksandr Ivanovych Vovk was a Ukrainian painter and graphic artist. He was born on November 22, 1922 in Kyiv. He graduated from the Kyiv Art Institute (1944-1950), where he studied under O. Shovkunenko. His main genres were thematic painting, portrait, landscape. His works are executed in a realistic manner, and some are marked by features of lyricism. He was a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1950) and an Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1985). He participated in exhibitions: city, regional, republic, and all-Union (1949). His main works include “People of the Collective Farm Fields” (1951), “Youth Brigade” (1952), “Youth of Kakhovka” (1957), “Taras's Lesson” (1961), “On the Native Land” (1964), “We Returned!” (1965), “In the Poltava Region. Lesya Ukrainka” (1971), “Park Bridge” (1980), “Artist M. Syrotenko” (1988), “Summer” (1995), and “Music” (2002). His works are kept in museums of Ukraine. Vovk lived and worked in Kyiv; he died on April 21, 2004.
