Heorhii Ivanovych Mahmedov (Mehmedov) was a Ukrainian painter and graphic artist. Born on May 6, 1921 in the city of Sochi, he graduated from the Kharkiv State Art School (1936-1940), where his teachers by specialty were V. Kobrynskyi and M. Derehus. His main fields were easel painting and graphics. He created genre paintings on historical themes, portraits, and landscapes in a realistic style with elements of impressionism. Mahmedov was an Honored Artist of Ukraine (since 1996) and member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1957. He participated in exhibitions starting in 1947, including republic, all-Ukrainian, all-Union, and international exhibitions starting in 1967. His main works include “I. Kotlyarevsky Writes the Poem “Aeneid” (1949), “T. Shevchenko on the Dnieper” (1957), “T. Shevchenko on a Raft Near Mizhhirya" (1958), "Evening" (1960), "T. Shevchenko Among Polish Friends" (1961), "Meeting of T. Shevchenko With His Sister Irina" (1971), "Girl" (1973), "Girl in Red" (1974), and "My Fate, Fate" (1993). The artist's works are kept in museums of Ukraine. He lived and worked in Kharkiv. He died on February 3, 2001.
