Havrylo Martynovych Hliuk was a Ukrainian painter and graphic artist. He was born on May 6 (19), 1912 in the city of Sighetu Marmației (now Romania). In 1928-1931, he studied at the Budapest School of Art and Industry, in 1931-1933 he studied in Budapest at the Higher School of Fine Arts, and in 1940-1941 at the Chisinau Art School. Starting in the 1940s, he participated in republic, all-Union, and international exhibitions. He was a member of the Union of Artists of Moldova (1945) and the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR (1954), as well as an Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1963). His main works include "Village Street" (1947), "On Vacation" (1950), "Lumberjacks on Guard of Peace" (1950-1951), "Lumberjacks" (1954), "Mountain Landscape" (1962), "Evening" (1967), "Threshing" (1970), "Man from Solotvyn" (1974), "Girls in the Field" (1977), and the series "Childhood" (1978-1981). Hliuk's work is characterized by vivid imagery and folk character. His works are kept in numerous museum, gallery and private collections in Ukraine and abroad. He lived and worked in Uzhhorod and died on November 2, 1983.
