Mykola Fedorovych Bortnykov was a Ukrainian artist, portraitist, landscape painter. Born on January 16 (29), 1916 in the city of Virny (now Almaty, Kazakhstan), in 1936 he graduated from the Tashkent Art College. After some time, he entered the Moscow Art Institute, but could not graduate and went to the front. After the end of World War II, he returned to Moscow and graduated from the Art Institute (1950; teacher: H. Riazhskyi). He was appointed director of the M. Samokysh Crimean Art School. From 1951, he participated in regional, republic and foreign exhibitions. He worked in the field of easel painting and graphics. In 1976, Bortnykov received the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine. Among his works are "Yavdokha", "Waterflood", "Birches", "Winter Day", and "In the Village". He lived and worked in Simferopol and died on March 20, 1997. The master's paintings are kept in museums in Ukraine and Russia, and in private collections abroad in Germany, Japan, Greece, and France.
