Oleksii Mykhailovych Hrytsai was a Soviet Russian painter. Born on February 22 (March 7), 1914 in St. Petersburg, he studied in Leningrad in the workshop of S. Seidenberg, then from 1932-1939 at the Repin Institute of Fine Arts under S. Abuhov, I. Brodskyi and V. Yakovliev. He participated in exhibitions starting in 1946. A member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, Hrytsai was a leading landscape painter of the late Soviet period. His works include "Stormy Day in Zhiguli" (1948-1950), "Over the Volga" (1950-1952), "Evening" (1954), "Portrait of a Wife with a Son" (1954), "Leningrad. Summer Garden" (1956), "Snowdrops. Aspen Forest" (1957), "First Greenery. Herd" (1957), "Night Veranda" (1959), "Fog. Calves" (1962), "Spring Time" (1959-1965), "Black Water" (1967), "Spring Twilight. Ravine" (1972-1973), and "Ice Drift" (1984-1985). Hrytsai lived and worked in Moscow and died on December 6, 1998.
