Ivan Ivanovych Shyshkin was a Russian painter and graphic artist. Born on January 13 (25), 1832 in the city of Yelabuga. In 1852-1856 he studied at the Moscow School of Painting and Sculpture. From 1857 he continued his education at the Imperial Academy of Arts, was a student of S. Vorobiov. In 1861-1866 as a pensioner of the Academy he visited Munich, Zurich, Geneva, Düsseldorf. Later he traveled around Russia for artistic purposes. Almost every year he exhibited his works at the Academy. He exhibited pen drawings at exhibitions of the Society of Traveling Exhibitions. In 1870 he joined the circle of aquafortists formed in St. Petersburg. Known as one of the best Russian landscape painters. In 1873, the Academy of Arts awarded Shyshkin the title of professor. His works are represented in many museums and private collections in Russia and abroad. He died in St. Petersburg on March 8 (20), 1898.
