Petro Oleksiiovych Kot was a Ukrainian artist, member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1982), and an Honored Artist of Ukraine (1986). Born on February 3, 1933 in the village of Kulazhyntsi (now Brovarskyi district of Kyiv region, Ukraine), Kot studied at the Kyiv State School of Decorative and Applied Arts (1951-1953), then continued his studies at the Dnipropetrovsk State Art School (1957-1961). He graduated with honors from the Kyiv State Art Institute (1967). His teachers in the specialty were M. Borovskyi, I. Shtilman, K. Trokhymenko, and V. Puzyrkov. Starting in 1967, he lived in Zhdaniv (now Mariupol). He worked in the fields of easel painting and graphics. A master of portraits and landscapes, Kot participated in approximately 25 republic, all-Ukrainian, and all-Union exhibitions, in foreign exhibitions, and in up to 70 city and regional art exhibitions. He was elected chairman of the Mariupol branch of the Donetsk regional organization of the National Union of Ukrainian Artists (1986-1992) and chairman of the Mariupol organization of the National Union of Ukrainian Artists (1992-2003). Among his works are "General D. Machnev", "Sergey Burov", "Age-Old Willows", and others. He passed away on October 7, 2003 in Mariupol. His works are in museums and private collections in Ukraine, Greece, the USA, Italy, France, Bulgaria, and Poland.
