Vitalii Oleksandrovych Kononenko is a Ukrainian painter and member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1982). Born on August 13, 1935 in Kramatorsk (Ukraine), in 1949 he entered the Kharkiv State Art School, where he graduated in 1954. His teachers were M. Slipchenko, P. Shyhymaha, and Yu. Stakhanov. From 1963 to 1982, he worked at the Donetsk Art Fund. Kononenko took part in creative meetings in Sednev and traveled to Karelia, Estonia, Crimea, the Caucasus. At this time, he moved away from socialist realism towards portrait and landscape in the styles of realism and fantastic realism. His main works include "Fairy Tale" (1961), "Field Camp" (1970), "Teacher" (1975), "A Moment of Silence" (1977), "The Road to the Temple" (1990), "Dream" (1991), and others. The artist's works are kept in the collection of the Kramatorsk Art Museum and some museums of the Donetsk region, as well as in private collections.
