Hryhorii Stepanovych Vasetskyi was a Ukrainian painter. He was a People's Artist of Ukraine from 1979. Born on November 28, 1928 in the village of Novoivanivka (now Poltava region), in 1955 he graduated from the Kyiv Art Institute, where he studied under P. Drachenko, O. Shovkunenko, and V. Puzyrkov. Starting in 1956, he took part in republic and all-Union art exhibitions. Abroad, his works were exhibited in Bulgaria, Hungary, and Germany. From 1960, Vasetskyi was a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, and from 2001, he was a corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine. He worked in the field of easel painting, thematic paintings on historical themes, portraits, landscapes, still lifes. Vasetskyi's canvases are marked by drama, dynamism of compositional solutions, and color saturation. His works are kept in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the Sumy and Chernihiv Art Museums, and in private collections in Ukraine and abroad. He died on April 27, 2019 in Kyiv.
