The Spit near Ochakiv

Oleksii Mykhailovych Artamonov was a Ukrainian painter, a member of the Union of Soviet Artists of Ukraine since 1945, and People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR since 1985. He was born on 18 February 1918 in the village of Vvedenka (now Pichaievskyi district, Tambov region, Russia). Between 1934 and 1938, he studied at the Year of 1905 Moscow Art College, where he was a student of Mykola Krymov. He participated in the Second World War. In 1944, he moved to Kyiv. From 1945 to 1949, he worked as the chief artist of the Partisan Glory Exhibition in Kyiv. The artist worked in the fields of easel and monumental painting, and poster art. He created thematic paintings, compositional portraits, and landscapes. Among his works are "Flooding on the Dnipro" (1976), "Gloomy in the Mountains" (1979), "Snow is Melting" (1981), "Stormy Evening" (1983), "Portrait of a Partisan" (1984), "In the Sunny Mountain Meadow" (1991), "The Black Sea" (2001), and others. Since 1947, he participated in republic exhibitions, and since 1968, in all-Union art exhibitions. His works are held in the National Art Museum of Ukraine and in many other museums across Ukraine. He passed away on 18 December 2011 in Kyiv.
