The Azov Sea

Mykola Oleksiiovych Khan was a Ukrainian artist, landscape painter of Korean origin. Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1974). Born on September 10, 1924 in the city of Nikolsk-Ussuriysky (now Primorsky Krai, Russia). In 1945 he graduated from the M.V. Gogol Theater and Art School in Alma-Ata (now Almaty, Kazakhstan). His teacher was Abram Cherkaskyi. In 1952 he graduated from the Kyiv Art Institute. Teacher: Oleksiy Shovkunenko. He worked in the field of easel and monumental-decorative painting, creating thematic paintings, master of landscapes and still lifes. He took an active part in art exhibitions starting in 1949. Among his works are "Azov Fishermen" (1954 to 1955), "Fixing the Sail" (1957), "Before the Storm" (1959), "Wind" (1960), "It Happened" (1970), the diorama "Burnt Village" , and many others. He died on March 21, 1981 in Kyiv. The artist's works are kept in the National Art Museum of Ukraine (Kyiv), the National Museum of History of Ukraine (Kyiv), in art and local history museums of Ukraine, and private collections in Europe and the USA.
