Olena Serhiivna Pоpkhadze was a painter and a member of the Union of Artists of Russia starting in 1980. Born on January 5, 1940 in Sevastopol, she graduated from the M. Samokysh Simferopol Art School in 1959. In 1967, she graduated from the Faculty of Painting of the Kyiv Art Institute. Popkhadze worked in the field of easel painting, creating thematic paintings, landscapes, and still lifes. In her creative output, there are many seascapes of Crimea. She also worked in the field of monumental and decorative art. She was an active participant in art exhibitions. Her works are kept in many art museums in the post-Soviet space, as well as in private collections.

At the bottom left there is a scratch, 17 cm long, with a slight loss of the paint layer. A little higher, at the top there is a small dent.

In the foreground there is a multi-figure composition: women, girls, an old woman in black look into the distance, following the soldiers leaving for the war. The general background is ocher-golden. In the background there is a village located on the hills.
