Oleksii Petrovych Boholiubov was a Russian painter. Born on March 16 (28), 1824 in the village of Pomeranye, Novgorod province (now Novgorod region), he studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1850-1853). From 1858, he was an academic. He was a member of the Society of Traveling Exhibitions from 1873. From 1853, Boholiubov was an artist of the Main Naval Staff. Bogoliubov's realistic work preserves the valuable traditions of academic panoramic and landscape painting ("The Mouth of the Neva", 1872, "Landscape in Kronstadt", 1873, and others). He created a series of paintings on the history of the Russian fleet ("The Battle of Gangut", 1876, "The Battle of Krasnaya Gorka", etc.). He died on October 27 (November 7), 1896 in Paris. His works are kept in many museums in Russia, Ukraine and abroad.

Etude. Image of the sea with waves and foam in the foreground. On the right, a narrow strip of the shore protrudes. In the distance, near the horizon, there is a ship. Most of the image is occupied by the sky with light clouds. The landscape is executed in monochrome, light brown watercolor.
