Vadym Ivanovych Odainyk was a Ukrainian artist, painter, graphic artist, Honored Artist of Ukraine (1971), People's Artist of Ukraine (1978), member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1958), and Laureate of the T.G. Shevchenko State Prize of Ukraine (1975). He was born on July 29, 1925 in Odesa. He took part in World War II and graduated from the Kyiv Art Institute (1946 to 1952). His teachers in the specialty were I. Shtilman, S. Hryhoriev, V. Kostetskyi, K. Yeleva, and S. Yerzhykovskyi. Starting in 1953, he was a participant in art exhibitions. Odainyk worked in the field of easel painting. In the artist's landscapes and still lifes, one can see the closeness to impressionism. Many of the artist's paintings are dedicated to the labor of workers. Among his works are "Self-portrait" (1946), "Harvest" (1949), "Taras' Paths" (1961), "Youths" (1969), "Triple Musicians" (1972), "In the Carpathians" (1977), "Winter in the Carpathians" (1981), "Khreshchatyk" (1983), "Katerynka" (1984), and others. He died on December 21, 1984 in Kyiv. The artist's works are kept in more than 100 museums, as well as in galleries and private collections.
