Anatolii Heorhiiovych Platonov was a Ukrainian artist, a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR starting in 1967, and a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine starting in 1970. He was an Honored Artist of Ukraine from 1992 and a People's Artist of Ukraine starting in 1999. Born on May 15, 1927 in Kherson, he participated in World War II, then graduated in 1956 from the M.B. Grekov Odesa State Art School. His teachers were H. Kryzhevskyi and M. Pavliuk. Starting in 1957, he participated in regional, republic, all-Union, and international art exhibitions. His personal exhibitions were held in Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and abroad in Bulgaria, Germany, Poland, and Hungary. From 1971 to 1981, Platonov headed the creative organization of artists of Kherson. He worked in the field of easel painting in the genres of landscape and still life. Among his paintings are "Family" (1968), "March" (1971), "Ballad about a Soldier" (1973), "In Sedniv" (1978), "Old Lviv" (1990), the series of landscapes "Architectural Monuments of Ukraine", "Bulgaria", Crimea", "Baltic States", and "Sedniv". His works are distinguished by lyricism, sophistication and harmony of colors. His paintings are kept in some museum collections in Ukraine and in private collections abroad. He died on May 27, 2005 in Kherson.
