Yurii Vasylovych Balanovskyi was a Ukrainian painter and graphic artist. He was born on 26 May (8 June) 1914 in the village of Tsarevodarivka, Tavriia Governorate (now Botiieve, Zaporizhzhia region). From 1930 to 1938, he studied at the Kharkiv Art College under Mykola Sharonov. From 1938 to 1942, he studied at the Kharkiv Art Institute under M.S. Prokhorov and M.S. Samokysh. He became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR in 1944. He lived in Kyiv. The artist worked in the fields of easel painting and graphics and created genre scenes, portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. He participated in republic exhibitions starting from 1945 and in all-Union exhibitions from 1938. Selected works include "At the Sick Commissar’s" (1938), "Crossing the Dnipro" (1946), "Panas Myrnyi Among Friends" (1955), "Autumn in the Mountains" (1957), and "Lived Through" (1965). He died on 16 August 1984. His works are kept at the National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kyiv, the Kyiv Historical Museum, and in other museums across Ukraine.
