Marharyta Mykolaivna Kryzhanivska was a painter and member of the Union of Soviet Artists of Ukraine (1950). Born on July 1, 1921 in Kharkiv (now Ukraine), in 1949, she graduated from the Kharkiv Art Institute. Her teachers in the specialty were D. Shavykin, S. Besiedin, and O. Kokel. She worked in the field of easel painting and participated in all-Union and republic art exhibitions since 1948. She is best known as a creator of genre, thematic paintings, and portraits in a realistic style. Her main works are "Memory" (1949), "Holiday on Our Street" (1986), "First of September" (1973), "Tenth Graders" (1961), "Village House"/"In the Native House" (1965), "In the New Building" (1967), "Towards the Sun" (1968), and others. Kryzhanivska lived and worked in Kyiv and died on February 18, 2011. Her works are kept in several museums and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.

In the foreground is a yellow hill; in the centre of the composition is a river with a small island. Beyond the river lie green fields with cultivated areas. The horizon line is placed high. In the lower left corner, there are the artist’s signature and the year of creation.
