Hryhorii Vasylovych Bonia was a Ukrainian Soviet artist, a member of the Union of Soviet Artists of Ukraine, and Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR since 1978. Born on April 1, 1918 in the town of Hradyzk (now a village in the Kremenchuk district of the Poltava region), he studied from 1936-1939 at the Kharkiv Art School. In 1939, he entered the Kyiv Art Institute. Bonia participated in World War II and was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st degree, and the medal "For Military Merit". In 1950, he graduated from the Kyiv Art Institute, where he studied under Volodymyr Kostetskyi, Oleksii Shovkunenko, and Tetiana Yablonska. Bonia worked in the field of easel and monumental painting. He participated in republic exhibitions from 1949 and all-Union from 1957. Among his works are "Haycocks" (1957), "Land of Boguslav" (1968), the triptych "Lesya Ukrainka" (1976), the series "Kyivan Rus" (1980-1981), "Battle for the Dnipro" (1987), and others. He died on June 26, 1989 in Kyiv. His works are kept in many museums of Ukraine and private collections.

Original. The sea occupies the foreground. Two-thirds of the canvas are taken up by the sky, with a low horizon line. The dominant colour scheme is blue-green. In the lower right corner of the image, the artist inscribed: "gr Bonia 73."
