Serhii Fotiiovych Besiedin was a Ukrainian artist and teacher, a professor from 1960, and a member of the Association of Contemporary Artists of Ukraine in 1929-1931 and the Union of Soviet Artists of Ukraine from 1938. Born on September 25 (October 8), 1901 in the village of Ruska Lozova (now Kharkiv district of Kharkiv region), he studied at the Kharkiv Art Institute from 1924-1929 under Oleksii Kokel and Semen Prokhorov. After 1929, he taught at the Kharkiv Art Institute. In 1935, he was transferred to work in the personal creative workshop of Mykola Samokysh. From 1963-1991, he was a professor and head of the painting department of the Kharkiv Art and Industrial Institute. He worked in the field of easel painting and easel graphics, creating genre and historical paintings, as well as portraits. He participated in exhibitions since 1927, republic exhibitions since 1932, all-Union exhibitions since 1939, and foreign exhibitions since 1959. Among his works are "Footballers" (1929), "View of Shevchenko's Grave" (1931), "Natasha" (1949), "Head of an Old Man" (1953), "Self-Portrait" (1979), and others. He passed away on July 22, 1996 in Kharkiv. His works are kept in many museums of Ukraine and private collections.
