Mykhailo Hnatovych Hlushchenko was a Ukrainian Soviet artist. Born on January 26 (February 8), 1909 in the settlement of Lyubotyn (now a city in Kharkiv region, Ukraine), from 1927-1932 he studied at the Kharkiv Art Institute under M. Sharonov and O. Kokel. A member of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR from 1968, he worked in the fields of painting, easel and book graphics, and monumental and decorative art. Among his works are an album of portraits of Ukrainian writers (1932); "Portrait of a Girl in Hutsul Dress" (1961); "On the Sea of Azov" (1965); the series "Life of Taras Shevchenko" (1961, lithographs); "Arrest of Taras Shevchenko"; "Taras Shevchenko at the Academy of Arts"; "Buchenwald" (1962, linocuts); "Petrograd in 1918" (1964-1968, linocuts); "Landscapes of the Kharkiv Region" (1965); "We Don't Forget - We Remember!" (1967, linocuts); "Southern Urals" (1969, linocuts); and "Southern Urals" (1969). Hlushchenko was engaged in book graphics during 1929-1966 and illustrated books for the publishing houses "Youth", "Soviet Writer", and others. He participated in republic exhibitions starting in 1932. Hlushchenko lived and worked in Kharkiv. He died in Kharkiv on November 18, 1981.
