Volodymyr Illich Masik was a Soviet Ukrainian painter and graphic artist. He was born on June 7, 1917 in Katerynoslav (now Dnipro). From 1935-1939, he studied at the Dnipropetrovsk Art School under M. Panin and V. Koreniev. In 1950, he graduated from the Kyiv Art Institute. He studied under K. Trokhimenko, M. Sharonov, V. Kostetskyi, and H. Melikhov. Masik participated in republic exhibitions from 1954, all-Union exhibitions from 1958, and exhibitions abroad from 1963. He was engaged in illustration and various printing techniques and worked on the creation of bookplates. In the 1970-1980s, Masik created a series of landscapes of the Kyiv region, the Baltic States, Crimea, the Carpathians and the Caucasus, executed in tempera and pastel. He was a member of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR and an Honored Artist of Ukraine (1977). His main works include "New Home in Kosovo" (1960), "This Cannot Be Forgotten" (1967-1975), "First Snow" (1993), "Moonlit Night in Tripoli" (1963), and a cycle of works based on poems by T. Shevchenko (1961-1963). His works are in museums in Ukraine and Russia. Masik died on September 12, 1996 in Kyiv.
