Petro Yakovych Karachentsov was a Soviet artist, graphic artist, poster artist, illustrator, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1967), and member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. He was also a participant in World War II. Born on August 14 (27), 1907 in St. Petersburg, he began to make posters in the 1920s. From 1927 to 1931, he studied at Vkhutein (the Moscow Institute of Fine Arts) under L. Bruni, S. Herasymov, and D. Moora. From 1930-1980, Karachentsov collaborated with the newspapers "Pravda" and "Komsomolskaya Pravda", as well as with the magazines "Rost", "Inozemnaya Literatura", and "Yunist". Works by Conan Doyle, Theodore Dreiser, Tyutchev, Veresayev and other writers were published with his illustrations. In the last years of his life, he painted landscapes. He died on September 27, 1998 in Moscow. His works are in many museum and private collections.
