Volodymyr Mykhailovych Chernikov was a Ukrainian artist, member of the Union of Soviet Artists of Ukraine. Born on January 15, 1918 in the city of Lysychansk (now Luhansk region, Ukraine). In 1939 he graduated from the Voroshylovhrad Art School. He participated in World War II. From 1946 to 1951 he studied at the Kyiv Art Institute. His teachers were E. Sahaidachny, O. Shovkunenko, K. Trokhymenko, K. Yeleva. After graduating, he taught at the institute for several years. He worked in the field of easel painting, graphics and posters in the style of socialist realism, creating genre paintings, portraits (where his heroes were miners, steelworkers, border guards), landscapes. Participant of all-Ukrainian art exhibitions starting in 1951, all-Union - starting in 1957, international - starting in 1959. Among his works are "Donetsk Miners" (1957), "Border Guards" (1971), "Marine Landing" (1975), "They Began" (1975), "Holiday at the Mine" (1982), "Defenders of Kyiv" (1983), and others. He died on March 17, 1992 in Kyiv. The artist's works are kept in the National Art Museum of Ukraine (Kyiv), museums of the Donetsk region, and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
