Fedir Zakharovych Zakharov was a Ukrainian artist, Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1970), People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1978), laureate of the Taras Shevchenko State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR (1987), and a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. Born on September 5, 1919 in the village of Oleksandrivske, Smolensk province (now Smolensk region, Russia), he received his primary art education at the M.I. Kalinin Moscow Art and Industrial School. From 1935-1939, he studied at the Moscow State School of Fine Arts, then from 1943-1945 at the V.I. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute. His teachers were H.H. Riazhskyi, V.V. Favorska, I.I. Chekmasov, D.K. Mochalskyi, and S.V. Herasymov. After studying, he was a teacher at the M. Samokysh Crimean Art School. From 1952 (or 1953), he lived in Yalta. From 1953, he participated in exhibitions. The artist's personal exhibitions were held in Leningrad, Moscow, and Kyiv. Crimean landscapes are the main content of Zakharov's work. He is one of the most interesting glorifiers of Crimean nature. Among his works are "Alushta" (1953), "Almond Blossoms" (1961), "Storm in Livadia" (1964), "The Sea is Noising" (1971), "After the Storm" (1973), "The Sea is Stormy" (1984), and others. He died on September 29, 1994 in Yalta. Some of his paintings are in the National Art Museum of Ukraine and in many museums and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
