Serhii Pavlovych Poderviansky was a Ukrainian painter and graphic artist, a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR (1952), an Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1980), a People's Artist of Ukraine (1992), and a professor. Born on July 2 (15), 1916 in Kyiv, he participated in World War II, then studied from 1946 to 1952 at the I.Yu. Repin Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture of the USSR Academy of Arts. His teachers in the specialty were K. Rudakov, M. Avilov, and V. Konashevych. From 1952 to 2005, he taught at the Kyiv State Art Institute (later the National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture). Poderviansky worked in the field of easel painting in the genres of portrait, landscape, still life, and nude, and in the field of book graphics - he illustrated books by Ukrainian and foreign authors and made posters. He participated in Kyiv, republic, all-Union, and foreign exhibitions starting in 1958. His personal exhibitions were held in Kyiv in 1973, 1997, 2006, and 2008. Among his works are "Valya" (1958, watercolor, pastel), "Behind the Living Wall" (1965), "Portrait of the Artist H.I. Halinska" (1978), "Change" (1981), "Between Battles" (1988), and others. He died on February 9, 2006 in Kyiv. His works are kept in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, in art and local history museums in Ukraine, and in private collections in France, the USA, South Korea, and Ukraine.
