Anton Mykhailovych Kashshai was a Ukrainian painter, a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine from 1946, an Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR from 1960, and a People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR from 1964. He was born on February 24, 1921 in the village of Dubrynychi (now Perechyn district of Transcarpathia). From 1929, he studied at the Uzhhorod gymnasium, where he was a student of Joseph Bokshay. Later, he met Adalbert Erdeli, Fedor Manail, and Omelian Hrabovskyi. In 1947, at an exhibition in Uzhhorod, Kashshay's work "The House in Domanintsi" attracted real attention to the artist. From that time, he engaged in creative work. Anton Kashshay headed the Transcarpathian regional organization of the Union of Artists of Ukraine for more than 15 years (starting in 1961). He worked in the field of landscape painting. He was a participant in regional (starting in 1947) all-Union (starting in 1952) art exhibitions. His personal exhibitions were held in Uzhhorod, Budapest, Kosice, and Mukachevo. Among his works are "First Snow" (1952), "Under the Mountain Ranges" (1963), "Fresh Day" (1968), "Uzhansk's Autumn" (1985), "Hutsulshchyna" (1987), and others. Kashshay's works are kept in the National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kyiv and in many museum and private collections in Ukraine and abroad. He passed away on December 30, 1991 in Uzhhorod.
