Volodymyr Yosypovych Patyk was a Ukrainian painter, landscape painter, and master of still life. He was a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine starting in 1958, an Honored Artist of Ukraine (1996), laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize (1999), a People's Artist of Ukraine (2006), and an Honorary Citizen of Lviv. Born in the village of Chorny Ostriv, Lviv province, Poland (now Lviv Oblast, Ukraine) on October 9, 1929, Patyk studied at an art and industrial school. In 1953, he graduated from the Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts. His teachers were Roman Selskyi, Mykola Fediuk, and Yosyp Bokshai. Patyk worked in the field of easel painting and had a special original style. Starting in the 1990s, the main formative role in Patyk's artistic manner was played by pure color, which increased the emotional activity of the picture and emphasized the decorative solution of the composition. He participated in exhibition art activities. His personal exhibitions were held in Lviv (2009, 2010). Among his works are "Through the Masonry" (1955), "Girl from Bukovina" (1966), "Steppe near Chyhyryn" (1976), "The Last Path" (1987), "Rebirth of the Nation" (1990), "The Wide Dnipro Roars and Groans" (1998), and others. A museum of Ukrainian artist Volodymyr Patyk has been opened in Lviv. His works are kept in many museums of Ukraine. He died on August 28, 2016 in Lviv.
