Mykhailo Mykolaiovych Romanyshyn was a Ukrainian artist, a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine starting in 1965, an Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR starting in 1976, and a People's Artist of Ukraine starting in 1991. Born on August 16, 1933 in the village of Velykyi Bereznyi, Czechoslovakia (now Transcarpathian region, Ukraine), he graduated from the Uzhhorod School of Applied Arts in 1953. His teachers were A. Erdeli, J. Bokshai, and F. Manailo. In 1960, he graduated from the Kyiv Art Institute, where his teachers were K. Trokhymenko and G. Melikhov. Starting in the late 1980s, Romanyshyn headed the National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kyiv. Starting in 1960, he participated in exhibitions. He represented Ukrainian art in Leipzig, Krakow, Kyoto, Florence, and Paris. Romanyshyn was a lyrical artist, an aesthetic artist, and a master of thematic paintings, landscapes, portraits, and still lifes. Among his works are "The Lumberjack" (1964), "The Shepherd" (1968 to 1969), "Morning" (1967), "The Source" (1970 to 1971), "Labor Day" (1975), and others. He passed away on October 12, 1999 in Kyiv. The artist's works are kept in museums, galleries, and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
