Valerii Vasylovych Panfilov was a Ukrainian graphic artist, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1960), and an Honored Artist of Ukraine (1974). Born on March 31, 1927 in Vladikavkaz (now Russia), he graduated from the Kyiv Art Institute in 1958. His teachers were O. Pashchenko, I. Selivanov, and M. Derehus. Hestudied in the creative workshops of the USSR Academy of Arts in Kyiv (1965). Panfilov's main field was easel and book graphics; he worked in the techniques of color and black and white linocut, etching, and various drawing techniques. His works are characterized by contrasts of light and shadow, color and texture. His main themes are working people and the beauty and harmony of the surrounding world. Starting in 1964, he participated in exhibitions. Panfilov's main works include "In the Hot Shops" (1958 to 1969), "Based on the Works of T. Shevchenko" (1962 to 1964), "Komsomol Builds" (1966 to 1968), "Herd" (1971), "Gardens Bloom" (1972), "Boyan" (1986), "Guests" (1986), and others. Some of his works are kept in the National Museum of T. Shevchenko (Kyiv) and other museums of Ukraine. He died on May 12, 2003 in Kyiv.
