Heorhii Serhiiovych Kosmachov was a Ukrainian Soviet artist and member of the Kharkiv organization of the Union of Soviet Artists of Ukraine from 1952. Born on January 20 (February 2), 1911 in Kharkiv, from 1927-1929 he studied at the painting courses of the Association of Artists of Red Ukraine, then from 1929-1933 at the Kharkiv Art Institute. His teachers were Ivan Padalka and Pavlo Holubiatnykov. In 1943-1945, Kosmachov headed the Kharkiv workshops of the Art Fund of Ukraine, and from 1945-1971 he worked there as an artist. He worked in the field of easel graphics and easel painting, creating landscapes and still lifes in realistic and impressionistic styles. He participated in republic (from 1945), all-Union (from 1951), and foreign (from 1962) exhibitions. Among his works are the graphic series: "Recovery of Donbas" (1947), "Reconstruction of Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant" (1947), "Old Cities" (1960), and "Sevastopol" (1966), the paintings "Winter" (1978), "Still Life with Lilac" (1980), "Sedniv" (1980), and "Donets" (1980), and others. He died on July 7, 1991 in Kharkiv. His works are kept in some museums of Ukraine.
