Гуцулка

Anatolii Dmytrovych Bazylevych was a Ukrainian graphic artist and a member of the Union of Soviet Artists of Ukraine since 1956. He was awarded the title of People’s Artist of Ukraine in 1993. He was born on 7 June 1926 in Zhmerynka (now Vinnytsia region, Ukraine). From 1947 to 1953, he studied at the Kharkiv Art Institute. His teachers included Hryhorii Bondarenko, Yosyp Daits, Vasyl Myronenko, and Oleksii Kokel. In 1953, he moved to Kyiv. He worked in the fields of book and easel graphics, as well as monumental painting. He participated in republic exhibitions starting from 1954, all-Union from 1953, and international exhibitions from 1955. His solo exhibitions were held in Kyiv (1961, 1996) and Moscow (1962). He created illustrations for selected works by Taras Shevchenko, Mykhailo Stelmakh, Charles Perrault, Hans Christian Andersen, and others. He died on 30 June 2005 in Kyiv. His works are held in the National Art Museum of Ukraine and in many other museums across the country.
