Hryhorii Odyseiovych Kalmykov was a landscape painter and graduate of the Imperial Academy of Arts and studied in the landscape studio of A.I. Kuindzhi. Born in Kerch on November 21, 1873. In 1889, he was a student of I.K. Aivazovsky in Feodosia, while in 1893 he graduated from the Odesa School of Drawing, where he was a student of K. Kostandi. From 1893 to 1895, he studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts and was one of the most talented students of A.I. Kuindzhi. In 1895, Kalmykov received the title of class artist of the III degree, and in 1897 he received the title of artist. In 1900, his personal exhibition was held in St. Petersburg, and in 1901, he exhibited his paintings in Munich. From 1910, he was a member of the A.I. Kuindzhi Society of Artists. Kalmykov painted mainly landscapes. His works include "Moonlit Night in Kikeneyizi", "Foggy Morning", "Surf at the Iron Cliffs", "Twilight", and others. He lived in St. Petersburg (Leningrad). He died in 1942 during the siege of Leningrad.

There are cracks throughout the paint layer. There are abrasions on the left and bottom edges of the painting. Below, to the left of the center there is a large stain, abrasions, dirt. Sagging of the canvas. On the reverse side of the canvas there are traces of drips.

Against the background of rooftops, there is a full-length depiction of A.I. Kuindzhi in a dark suit with a grey beard. In his hands, he holds a round bowl with grain. Doves are flying towards him from all sides. The overall background is pearl-silver. In the lower left corner of the painting, the inscription reads: "H.O. Kalmykov. 1910".
